ABDOULAYE TOURE

Born in Conakry, Guinea, West Africa, Abdoulaye Toure began drumming at 10 years old.

In time he became well versed in the traditional music of his country, excelling in playing djembe, kenkeni, sangban and dun dun drums and krin.

He has performed with Guinea’s highly acclaimed National Ballet Djoliba and with Papa Kouyate’s Les Petits Sorcier, traveling throughout West Africa including Gambia, Gabon, Burkina Faso and Mali. 

Abdoulaye is currently based in New York.  During the school year he is a resident musician for West African dance classes held at Princeton University.  He has taught drum workshops in Kingston, Jamaica, performed at world music venues Shrine and Silvana in Harlem, Issyra Art Gallery in Hoboken, New Jersey, New York public school performances through Wula Drum. 

He also performs widely at traditional wedding and baby naming ceremonies for local African communities.

He teaches group and private drum classes in Harlem.
